Professional Activity. Professor of Constitutional Law in the Department of Constitutional Law and History of Political Thought of the University of the Basque Country since 2000. Teaching Areas: 1) "Constitutional Law "(Faculty of Labour Sciences and Faculty and Social Sciences); 2) "Law and Ethics in the Biosciences", Faculty of Science and Technology (Bioscience Degree Programs: Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology).
Professor in the Master's of Food Quality and Safety of the University of the Basque Country and the Inter-University Master's in Bioethics (University of La Laguna, University of Las Palmas, University of Zaragoza, University of the Basque Country).
| | Education and Training. Bachelor of Laws from the University of Deusto (1996) and Doctor in Law from the University of the Basque Country/EHU (2004).
Completed her education with two research stays, in 1998 and 1999 at the Max Planck Institute of Freiburg of Brisgovia (Germany), and has visited the Max Planck Institute for Public Law in Heidelberg (2008) and the Freiburg--Switzerland Institute of Federalism (2009).
Research Activity. Her research, which has been documented in conferences and seminars participation and publications, can be classified under four main topics:
STATE INTERVENTION IN ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS. Especially in regards to the use of genetically modified organisms and microorganisms and transgenic crops.
CONSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION OF LINGUISTIC PLURALITY. Collaborating researcher on the "Modelos de reconocimiento de la pluralidad lingüística, entre coerción y libertad de lenguas", SJ2007-67178), financed by MEC, 2007-2010, directed by Prof. Dr. Alberto Lopez Basaguren (Professor of Constitutional Law of the UPV/EHU).
FREEDOM OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND (BIO)ETHICS COMMITTEES. The protection of investigative freedom in the face of growing State control over scientific research activities (especially Biomedical research). The institutionalisation of Ethics Committees modifies the model of the social contract with science. It implies relevant advantages for protecting the values at risk in research, but it also poses risks to basic freedoms.
PUBLIC HEALTH AND BASIC RIGHTS IN LIGHT OF THE DEVELOPMENTS IN AGRIFOOD TECHNOLOGY. Ethical and legal aspects of agrifood technologies and the food market; functional foods and transgenic foods; ethical aspects of clinical trials with foods; nutrigenomics; biotechnology and the human right to food; consumer protection; and integration of the European food market.
Teaching Activity. Since December 2000, Associate Professor (currently Assistant Professor) of Constitutional and Autonomous Law, at the University School of Labour Relations and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of the University of the Basque Country/EHU, Lejona.
Professor in the Master's in Bioethics in the Canary Islands and the online Inter-University Master's in Bioethics (Univ. of La Laguna, Tenerife and UPV/EHU), teaching the following courses: Biomedical Law and its relationship to Bioethics, Clinical history, Biosafety: ethical and legal aspects and Transgenic foods and Consumer rights.
Courses taught at the Doctoral level: 1) Subject: Human cloning in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU in the Inter-University Doctoral Programme "Constitución y Derechos Fundamentales en Europa", (UPV/EHU, University of Alicante, University of Granada); 2) Subject: Legal protection of the environment and public health in regards to transgenic foods, Doctoral Programme: Current problems in Public and Private Law in 21st Century Europe, University of the Basque Country 2005/2006

Activities as an Expert, Advisor or Evaluator. Development of the report "Retos actuales de la política europea y española en la regulación de la utilización confinada y liberación intencional de OMG", assigned by the Ethics Advisory Committee on Scientific and Technical Research (Spanish Science and Technology Foundation), September, 2003.
One of the twenty members of the research project "Los controles éticos de la Actividad Biomédica", funded by the Roche Institute, as well as co-author of the monograph written as a result of this project (2009).
Grants and Research Awards. Pre-doctoral research grant from the Department of Education, Universities and Research of the Basque Country for 1997-2001.
First Prize in the VIII Certamen CAF-Elhuyar for scientific research and dissemination in the Basque language, November 2001, with the individual work entitled: "Klonazio terapeutikoaren mitoa: egia eta gezurrak"
